Kim’s Mumma Tina loved life! She loved dancing, parties and socialising. Sadly, just over 4 years after her diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis, Tina died in November 2024. This Mother’s Day, Kim, her sister and brother will remember their Mumma and all the energy and fun she brought to their lives.
Towards the end of 2019 Tina was experiencing breathlessness and encouraged by Kim, she made an appointment to see her GP. Recognising the symptoms, Tina was referred to respiratory services and promptly diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in January of 2020. Many appointments followed, along with a prescription for the anti-fibrotic drug Nintedanib.
Tina continued to live her life. She was employed at Cardiff Airport in Meet and Greet and loved her job, where she worked 12-hour shifts until finally having to resign due to her health in December 2023 aged 70. In January 2024, after a holiday, Tina’s health declined, and she became reliant on 24-hour oxygen.

Kim, who lived with her Mumma, describes an excellent healthcare journey. From diagnosis, monitoring and support, oxygen therapy and all interactions with healthcare professionals, Kim says “everything done for mum was amazing”.
In four years, mum received so much support. No-one gave up on her
Kim and her sister Heidi, who had never heard of pulmonary fibrosis, were keen to raise awareness and funds for APF. Heidi got involved in Go the Distance, walking 100 miles in September 2023 and raised £662. Kim did the Walk for Hope over Easter 2024, a particularly challenging commitment for her as she has the debilitating health condition, Fibromyalgia.

Mum was my life. She was everything. I love talking about her
Here at APF we are committed to remembering loved ones lost to pulmonary fibrosis as well as supporting everyone living with the disease.
