Remembering Sarah Weir OBE

December 22, 2023

Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis remembers Sarah Weir OBE

It is with great sadness we mark the death of Sarah Weir OBE this week, following her diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and lung transplant.

Sarah joined the APF board of trustees in April this year and made a huge impact in her short time with us. Sarah had a wealth of experience to bring from her time with Alzheimer’s Society and the Clore Leadership Foundation.

In her short but busy time with us, Sarah made a huge impact on her fellow trustees and the charity. She improved the way we monitored risk, helped us think ahead more strategically and brought a laser sharp focus to the most important things on any agenda – people.

Sarah was able to offer insight and sage advice, with such kindness, you often didn’t realise she was suggesting improvements. Her pictures and storytelling are legendary at our board meetings, bringing to life complex ideas in fun and easy to understand ways. We shall miss her very much.

Sarah Weir OBE

“Sarah was a wonderful person - brave and inspiring; caring and wise. She was special. We will miss her colourful presence on the board of trustees and in our lives.”

Steve Jones, Trustee and friend

“I only knew Sarah for a short while, but I found her fun, insightful and wise, learning so much about myself and world around me in our conversations.  The world is a poorer place without her humanity, kindness and warmth.”

 Louise Wright, CEO

"Sarah was a wonderful person and although we only met virtually, that didn't matter as she has left such a lasting impact on me and knowing her has been a blessing. I've learnt so much from Sarah, through her strength, her kindness and compassion, her humanity, sense of fun and her self awareness, intellect and positivity. I will miss her greatly as will so many."

John Conway, friend and leader of St Georges PF Support Group

"I was fortunate to work directly with Sarah when she first became a trustee at APF. She was quite literally a whirlwind of warmth, ideas and passion for the APF cause & ensuring that we are making a positive impact for patients. Despite her health, Sarah continued to volunteer for new endeavours & provide insightful thoughts to help guide us into the future. Thank you for everything Sarah."
