Daniel's motivation for the IRONMAN challenge was in memory of his partner Emilia's grandfather, Peter Hughes-Phillips. Pete sadly passed away this year and he is dearly missed by his wife Shirley, son, daughter and grandchildren. Pete's family cared for him while suffering with pulmonary fibrosis and they have done an incredible job supporting each other since his passing.
Daniel - IRONMAN Weymouth Emilia has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation, and without her I wouldn't have been able to raise as much money or complete the race in the time that I did.
Emilia Gray (Pete's Granddaughter) and Daniel MairPete would go out of his way to help anyone as an all-round handy-man, which became increasingly difficult as the disease advanced.
Until Pete's diagnosis, I hadn't heard of pulmonary fibrosis, so my motivation became threefold: to raise money and awareness in his memory, and to give the family he left behind a day to enjoy together - a day to celebrate the man they all knew and loved.
