Barry's Walk and Cycle Challenge

October 27, 2022

Barry was diagnosed with IPF in January 2022 and after his consultant advised him to stay active, Barry decided to start walking and cycling again – activities he had enjoyed for so many years.

Barry got back on his bike not only to stay fit but to raise vital funds for research.  The fundraising challenge will see Barry walk a total of 1000km and cycle 5000km in 2022.  Inspired by Barry, his colleagues at Hypnos have joined the challenge and each person will match every kilometer by running, walking or cycling.  Teammates taking on the epic event are Amy, Ben, Carolyn, Julie, Karen, Kim, Max, Oliver, Rachel, Samarah and Terry.

Barry is an inspirational and much loved colleague within the Hypnos family, and we all want to support him as a team, in his challenge to raise as much as possible for research into IPF and to find a cure.  Barry loves his exercise, and we at Hypnos want to walk with him and share the challenge
Barry Owen-Smith
So far this year, I have completed 665km and a further 2775km of cycling on my indoor trainer, cycle paths or tracks.  I am now having to use oxygen to help me along the way, which helps me in recovery and effort.  I am keeping away from hills (or pimples) as I would call them, but every km helps
Thank you Hypnos Team and Good Luck!
