Announcing our new 5-year strategy 2026

January 15, 2026

‘Our new strategy is bold and ambitious, and it reflects the voices and experiences of people living with pulmonary fibrosis.’ - Daniel Saxton, CEO, Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF)

For Every Breath, Every Journey, Every Future

We're thrilled to share details of our new 2026 5-year strategy to help drive meaningful change for everyone affected by pulmonary fibrosis (PF).

Underpinned by the guiding message For Every Breath, For Every Journey, For Every Future, the strategy focuses on three priorities: expanding APF’s support so more people can access better help when they need it; improving access to faster diagnosis and fairer care within the NHS; and accelerating research to improve treatments and bring us closer to a cure.

We know around 150,000 people are estimated to be living with pulmonary fibrosis, 18,000 new cases are diagnosed each year and more than 5,000 people die from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis annually. Backed by our ambitious strategy, we’re determined to do all we can to ensure no-one faces pulmonary fibrosis alone and that fewer lives are lost to this devastating disease.

Shaped by lived experience

People living with pulmonary fibrosis contributed towards our new strategy, as well as families, carers and healthcare professionals, and we are sincerely grateful for their contribution.

As our CEO, Daniel Saxton, says:

Our new strategy is bold and ambitious, and it reflects the voices and experiences of people living with PF. Over the next five years, we will deliver more than £13 million to expand support, strengthen care and significantly increase investment in research.
This level of investment will allow us to reach more people and ensure that no one faces pulmonary fibrosis alone.
